Location 1980 Podcast

Katya began practicing art later in life, first modeling for figure drawing sessions and then attending as well. Eventually pursuing a full studio practice, she elevated to a level of fantastically expressive work in a very short time. Much of her work focuses on figures and bodies that are highly distorted and exaggerated, often portraying dark, anxious, and uncomfortable themes such as isolation, anxiety, and the sense of performance in daily life. In a Jungian way, by not hiding from the darkness she is able to move with light.

Maneuvering multiple styles and media, Stephanie is a versatile creative both in and out of the studio.  In our last four episodes we interviewed various artists from our F.eminine U.ndertones show; now meet its gallerist & curator (who is herself hanging in the show as well).  Making artwork is only one part of the game - exhibition is another, as is managing the rest of life along the way.

Nancy Anderson and Ruth Geller have been longtime friends of the studio, and have the types of art careers we love to feature: they have both practiced art consistently for decades, evolving through styles and media as mastery of one led to the search for new challenges. Having participated in exhibitions, won awards, and moved around the country, neither seeks the art "scene" so talked about by laymen and portrayed endlessly in Hollywood.
